Your Designer Needs You to Create a Detailed Sitemap: Here’s How

 In WordPress Website Design

How to create a detailed sitemap.

Do this and your copywriter and web designer will send you nice presents.

Want your web design process to be super-smooth? A detailed sitemap must happen first!

The biggest problem I see for small businesses seeking web design is that they don’t have a detailed site map and they don’t have their content finalized.

A sitemap is the first step to figuring out what your website will be about and how content will be organized. It helps you, you copywriter, your SEO strategist, and designer plan content. It is essential for the designer to know what should be on each page before the design process even begins! If your sitemap is solidified before starting the copywriting or design, the process will be smoother and faster saving you time and money.

Below I will give you an example of how to create a detailed site map. Personally, I think it is helpful to include the keywords that you hope each page will rank for in your sitemap so when the copywriter looks at it, they will have a clear idea of what words should be used in headings, body copy etc.

The more detailed and thought you put into your sitemap, the better your website will be!

(these are all just examples, please replace pages and section with your own).

  • Basically, each line is a chunk of copy, a specific image, a video, etc. that will be expanded upon in detail later.
